A city of thousands of years of cultural and historical heritage, Istanbul offers both its residents and visitors the chance to participate many entertainment, culture and arts events. Exhibitions opening at different venues across the city throughout the year are among the events you shouldn’t miss. We selected some exhibitions you can visit during the summer months:
Pi Artworks Istanbul
Pi Artworks Istanbul is hosting Gülay Semercioğlu and her solo exhibition Desire to Survive, featuring the artist's inedited drawings from the 29th of May to the 29th June, 2019.

3 Exhibitions at Borusan Contemporary
Borusan Contemporary has been hosting 3 different exhibitions since March 9th. The first exhibition contains a series of works produced in Boğaziçi by South Korean photographer Boomoon who is know for large scale impressive nature landscapes. The exhibition will last until August 25th.
Newly added works will be presented at the exhibition called Overture: Selections from the Borusan Contemporary Art Collection. The choice of works also functions as a representative snapshot of the geographic, esthetic, and genre-based initiatives of Borusan’s recent collecting activities. Artists include Leo Villareal, Kathrin Stumreich, Elco Brand, Rick Silva, Edward Burtynsky and Jeffrey Blondes. The exhibition can be seen until August 25th.
The new collection exhibition at Borusan Contemporary is based on the lines “They are uttered and unfinished / all the loves in the world” by the poet Turgut Uyar and brings together different tendencies of international contemporary art to questions of aesthetic research triggered by today's conditions. The exhibition will remain open until March 8th, 2020.
Opening on March 9th the exhibition titled ‘The I is Always in the Field of the Other: A Selection From Agah Uğur’s Collection’ brings together art works by 20 artists produced in 2000’s on different geographies the subject of which are images of men and women. The exhibition can be seen until July 14th.
Artists included are Füsun Onur, Adrian Melis, Zeyno Pekünlü, Nasan Tur, Mounir Fatmi, Jhafis Quintero Gonzales, Jaan Toomik, Ivan Argote, Ali Kazma, Özlem Şimşek, Nezaket Ekici, Leman Sevda Darıcıoğlu, Fatma Bucak, Farniyaz Zaker, Aslan Gaisumov, Kate Gilmore, Ferhat Özgür, İpek Duben, Marcos Avila Forero and Didem Pekün.
Opening on February 22nd, The Event of a Thread: Global Narratives in Textiles exhibition brings together 25 international contemporary artists, who use textile to create aesthetic and cultural narratives through objects, installations and video works. The title of the exhibition is a quotation from On Weaving (1965), the reference book by Anni Albers, one of the most important artists from the Bauhaus textile workshops.
Artists included are: Belkıs Balpınar, Ulla von Brandenburg, Hussein Chalayan, Burhan Doğançay, Noa Eshkol, Andreas Exner, Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu, Uli Fischer, Şakir Gökçebağ, Zille Homma Hamid, Heide Hinrichs, Olaf Holzapfel, Gözde İlkin, Christa Jeitner, Elisa van Joolen & Vincent Vulsma, Gülsün Karamustafa, Servet Koçyiğit, Eva Meyer & Eran Schaerf, Karen Michelsen Castañón, İrfan Önürmen, Judith Raum, Sabire Susuz, Franz Erhard Walther, Bauhaus Space, Harald Schmidt Archive and Ziya Tacir.
Through a selection of fifteen artworks from two private collections, Replica of the Original explores the way “biography” of objects and human stories intertwine one another while continually transformed over time. The exhibition indicates the manifold conventions that occur in the event a collected artwork reenters the public space, where new meanings and interactions form among the other works, the viewers, and the environment. The exhibition can be seen until August 18th.

Anna Laudel Contemporary
Anna Laudel opened the second edition of its summer exhibition entitled “Art Market II” on May 30th with an aim to offer affordable artworks of 30 national and international artists working with different themes and mediums.
The group exhibition will showcase a diverse and accessible selection including paintings, sculptures, photographs, engravings, prints, ceramics and neon works by artists Deniz Defne Acerol, Mustafa Aslıer, Özlem Can, Ramazan Can, Erol Deran, Tuğçe Diri, İsmet Doğan, Bedia Ekiz, Onur Hastürk, Tülay İçöz, Renan Kaleli, Bilal Hakan Karakaya, Mehmet Sinan Kuran (feat. Emre Namyeter), Ekin Su Koç, Serkan Küçüközcü, Nurdan Likos, Bahar Oganer, Ozan Oganer, Felekşan Onar, Vedat Örs, Ardan Özmenoğlu, Daniele Sigalot, Burcu Sülek, Ayla Turan, Tina Varon, Sarp Kerem Yavuz, Hanefi Yeter, Serpil Yeter, Bahadır Yıldız and Saliha Yılmaz.

Akbank 37th Contemporary Artists Prize Exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Painting and Sculpture Museums Association and Akbank Sanat with the object of supporting developments in contemporary art and to support young artists. 20 artworks chosen by the evaluations of this year’s jury Prof. Dr. Aslı Serbest, Prof. Dr. Mona Mahall and Prof. T. Melih Görgün will be exhibited between 28 June – 31 July 2019 in Akbank Sanat. The exhibition can be visited free of charge.

Dirimart presents Culebra, an exhibition of recent paintings of New York-based artist Davide Balliano. Opening on Thursday May 25th, the show marks the artist’s first solo presentation of his work in Istanbul and can be seen till June 30th.
